I want to offer a great big THANK YOU!!! to everyone who took my Reader Survey. I was surprised how many of you responded! Maybe it is the researcher in me, but it was so fun to analyze the results and learn more about YOU and what YOU want.
As my audience as grown tremendously over the last year, I want to make sure I know who you are and how best to serve you. I have already started to come up with a game plan of how to implement the feedback you provided me. In the meantime, I thought you might be interested in the results.
Based on your answers, I have created a typical reader profile.
- My typical reader is female (92%) between the ages of 21-40 (78%).
- She has at least some college education (98%) and likely a college degree (74%).
- She is married (91%) and has at least one child (75%).
- She lives in the United States (95%) and identifies herself as a Christian (93%).
- Either she or her partner is in the medical field (81%).
The topics she is most interested in are:
- Marriage (96%)
- Family (75%)
- Personal resilience (77%)
- Medical marriages (75%)
She has recommended my blog to other people (77%) and is interested in me creating a podcast (74%) and webinars (53%).
What I am taking away from the results
1. Keep delivering content relevant to your needs. While I have been writing about family and personal resilience, one of the reasons for this survey was to know if that was helpful to you, or if you only wanted content related to marriages. I will continue to write about marriage, family, personal resilience, and medical marriages. You provided me with detailed information about the specific content within those topics you are interested in. I have already started mapping out a calendar for how to deliver that content to you over the next year.
2. Keep things concise and applicable. When I asked people to write what they liked most about my blog, the majority of the answers were related to the blog being relevant to their lives with practical, everyday ways to apply the principles. You are busy! You have full lives! I know I don’t have time to read 1500 word posts. I will continue giving you practical tips that you can quickly digest and implement.
3. Keep being authentic. Again, one of the most common written in responses was appreciation that I was real and authentic. In the past, I have had requests to share more of my Christian perspective. I have been hesitant to do that because I have not wanted to alienate readers. I was surprised to see that so many of my readers were Christian. Don’t worry, I won’t start preaching to you–but I will allow more of that authentic side of me to come through.
4. Expand my resources to better serve you. Once I get settled in our new home, I have some amazing resources I am excited to share with you!! (Watch for them around the first of September.) I am also excited to pursue some other avenues to serve you that you have requested–such as podcasting and webinars.
Thank you, again, for your participation in the survey. Your responses help me know how to provide you the content you want and need. If you have not already taken the survey, but still want to, you can do so here. I will keep looking at the results and incorporating your feedback. Thanks again for helping me know how to better serve you!
